National Cessation Platform Stakeholder Toolkit
Background
An estimated 1.8 million Australians over the age of 14 smoke daily, and in the past four years alone, national vaping rates have almost tripled, with an estimated 1.5 million Australians over the age of 14 currently vaping. More needs to be done to help people end their dependence on nicotine.
The National Cessation Platform aims to provide all Australians with equitable access to the latest evidence-based cessation information and support, ensuring that those who want to quit smoking and/or vaping can do so with the best available resources.
To utilise the latest innovations in cessation support, Quit is collaborating with stakeholders from across community, health and the smoking/vaping cessation sector to build on their expertise and experiences.
Our three phases of development to deliver the National Cessation Platform will see us gather insights and bring together ideas to integrate best practices to create an equitable, accessible and personalised digital experience for Australians wanting to quit smoking and/or vaping.
Key milestones for 2024
Target audience segmentation research: Build understanding of Australians who smoke and/or vape and define the needs and preferences of distinct audiences based on behaviour, product use, socio-demographics and beliefs. This will inform the development of online cessation pathways, tools, and resources, with a secondary objective of identifying knowledge gaps to be addressed in a subsequent exploratory research phase.
Exploratory research phase planning: Develop a research plan to address knowledge gaps from the segmentation research and inform the future state roadmap of the National Cessation Platform.
Digital experience platform planning: Select and onboard a digital strategy partner, development of the digital strategy, implementation costing and planning.
Stakeholder FAQs
What is the National Cessation Platform?
Funded by the Federal Government, the trusted quit.org.au site is being developed to be a state-of-the-art national digital cessation hub supporting Australians who smoke or vape to quit for good.
The platform will provide evidence-based support using the latest behavioural insights for people who want to quit, particularly from priority populations. This will be done through a seamless digital experience with integrated tools and resources, providing a one-stop shop for all Australians wanting to quit and meeting people where they are to assist their quitting journey.
Specific, evidence-based content will be informed by the needs of priority population groups, including Australians in regional and remote areas, populations where smoking and vaping rates are high, youth populations, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
